Turmeric is a spice, native to India, which gives curry its bright, yellow hue. For centuries, Indians used it for cooking as well as for medicinal purposes. Scientific studies have supported its many benefits to your body through its compounds. These compounds are called Curcuminoids, the primary of which is Curcumin - the main active ingredient in Turmeric. Known for its anti-inflammatory benefits, Curcumin is also a plant-based antioxidant that protects from cell-damaging, free radicals in the body.

History of Turmeric

Western society has recognized the potential health benefits of turmeric for a long time too, with records of its use in the 1700s across Europe, especially Portugal and Britain, the two foremost sea fairing traders of the era. It is this longevity of use that is what makes turmeric a standout in the health industry today. Not only is it a wonderful health product, but it is a generational one. Many people today know that turmeric is good for them because parents, grandparents, great grandparents and more have always taken turmeric in one form or another. That kind of branding is priceless.
Of course, if the end result was poor, no branding would keep the product sustainable, but not only is turmeric an exceptional dietary supplement, its benefits have also been supported by many clinical study results. There are many areas that turmeric has been found to be beneficial, and a study of the supplement by Hewlings and Kalman, published in the October 2017 edition of Foods Journal, looks at this in depth. Here the researchers examined the benefits of the active component of turmeric, curcumin including its effect as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory supplement. This takes in consideration its potential use in helping to reduce pain as well as the effect of taking turmeric supplements for healthy people with no ongoing health issues.

The overall results showed that turmeric is beneficial in all cases, including possibly even helping in the reduction of anxiety in healthy people, and this is just one of several studies on the subject, all showing that turmeric brings benefits to consumers. This combination of science-backed studies and legacy confidence in turmeric is why turmeric continues to be one of the best-selling health supplements available today.
Consumers love turmeric because its benefits are backed up by science, but also because it can help address so many different health issues. From joint pain to skin irritation, potentially helping with blood sugar sensitivity, and even aiding in the reduction plaque, there are so many uses for turmeric that it can be seen as a great value health product too.
For consumers looking for a ‘one supplement does it all’ approach, turmeric is ideal.
